So under the program of always 44 students were selected for four years till their DDI completes. And then they will also help the trees because in on the starting of their degree they will plant some trees of Sandalwood. And then they will protect them for four years until the completion of their degree. So, that's why after four years the plant can grow itself and have maximum growth. So that's why this will also get more benefit and it will also require less care.
Indian Sandalwood
As we all know that Sandalwood is a very precious wood that is also used for its Timber and also for its fragrance. And so that's why we will consider to talk about what is the Indians underboard. Because, we will talk about it in detail so that if any even ask any question do the reader. So it can definitely explain all the equations arising in the mind of the person who is asking about those questions. So that's why we will talk about various species of the sandalwood and one of them was Indian Central would which we will discussing. Because as the name suggests Indian central would mainly found in the regions of India and in the in Western ghats mainly.
The scientific name is a sentylum album And it is mainly found in the dry CDs for rest. But in India it is found in tropical region where the high rainfall is provided. But only the seasonal rainfall that's why these are also deciduous for rest. Because if they have all time rainfall then it can be converted into tropical Evergreen forest. But if they have a periodic rainfall or a certain time and also face is dry season so that's why they will convert it into decides forests.
These are mainly native to India China Indonesia Australia and Philippines as this is the region of tropics. Because these all regions between the tropics. And receives the periodic rainfall and get a dry season also that's why the. The dry deciduous In a very large amount. And which also include many types of plants that is handled wood is very one of them and it is very strong and durable. As it can grow up to the height of 20 meter which is a very enormous height but less than evergreen trees.
So it is mainly Harvested for Timber. And also used for making the pregnancy materials that can be used in different types of species. And materials as like in cosmetics and in anticiptics. And any other astries and properties. So that's why this is very important in all the regions and all the sectors of society.
So let's talk about it IUCN status Which is provided by international Union for conservation of nature. And under this status is "Vulnerable" is considered as well labeled that it have not get some extinct. But it have many problems due to the making of infrastructure. So its population is declining but at a very slow rate. So we will have to be concerned about it so that it cannot decline in future. And it will increase because it have also an economical significance and societal rituals also have a part of it.
It's oil is used in perfume cosmetics and antiseptics and also used in aromatherapy. To reduce stress and hypertension and also heals wounds and treats skin blemishes. So that's why it is very helpful from the doctoral point of view for the body.
Major growing areas of Indian Sandalwood
So let's talk about a pager growing areas of it as we have talked earlier that it is found mainly in the pending solar India so in the pen and solar India it is bound in Andhra Pradesh region and in telangana and in Karnataka, MP and Maharashtra and Gujarat and Bihar because these all form a part of peninsular India.
Among the whole sandalwoods of the world and of the region which we have discussed earlier. About which we have talked that in these handleboots are grown in mainly this region. Because of this areas are tropical and tropical decidues for a star found here. That's why these centered boots found here. Are very famous because India and Australia are largest Groverts of Zanderbolts. While the biggest Market of it lies in the USA China Japan and Indonesia. And we have also the domestic use of it and we will also use it for the export point of view. That's why this is very important for the economy of a nation.
Red Sandalwood
So let's talk about the red sandalwood Which is considered to be most precious among all. The varieties of sandalwood and all around the world. So that's why this is also very important. Because if a recognition is growing only signal wood but not this. So the product of that nation will not be grown. All the value of production will be less than required.
That's why the red sandalwood also have a very important significance. Because as we have seen that it's smuggling will also be a major issue.
As it is Indian endemic tree species with restricted geographical range in Eastern Ghats. And it is very much endemic in the Andhra Pradesh region that's why this is also a important thing. We have to protect it in that region because it is only found in a very small region. That's why it is very important to protect it in the region because if it is reason is not protected. So it can go extinct and we will not found it anywhere.
And it is highly restricted to Southeast portion of India. And it usually grows in Rocky degraded and fellow lands with red soil and hot and dry climate. So these all conditions make it unique and make it only found In tropical dry deciduous forests.
Threats to Indian Sandalwood
So let's talk about the threads which in the Indian candle would have faced so the first one is
1.The illicit falling for smuggling
Because the people's cut these trees for smuggling purposes. And then they will in to obtain high quality Timber and to get richer they will sell these in the black market. So that government will not know about it and this will not be in controlled manner. So that's why this will also degrade their population in a very high speed. And this will also LED to their extinction in a very less time so that's why this is also very concerning issue.
2.Forest fires
So the second one is very much natural reason, because many times in the dry deciduous forests, the wild fire gets scored because it is in a general phenomena when the heat is very much high. So it can convert it into the forest fire which is also decrease their number of the trees of the Indian sandalwood. And that's why this is also because of our fault because if we will ensure that no fire can be generated or we will stop the fire as soon as it is generated. So we can also get control over these types of natural Calamities. And can save the maximum species of Indian sandalwood so that our economy also get benefited.
3. Cattle Grazing
That's what the next reason is that is the kettle grazing by the local peoples. Because in the cattle grazing the small trees of Indians handle wood get destroyed. And get eaten by the kettle so that their new population will not be increased. Because the older population is not getting deep benefited because of these. But the small trees which are new growings are getting the benefited. That's why this will also don't let any new degree of this sandal would grow in that area and the old trees are getting old and get Fallen for the use of Timber. So that's why it will population will also will decline but in a very slow manner. But this should also be controlled as to protect these types of species and to increase their number of their plants in a very significant manner in a very small time.
4. Other Anthropogenic threats
So the other endropogenic trade which are also caused the decline in of these sandalwood are the pollution and environment and climate change which is also very major issue of this.
So in this way we have discussed all the major issues. And so now we will discuss about what should be the way forward. So that it should be done in a good manner and it will be helpful for the nature also.
Way forward
As the Indian sandalwoods is in high demand in China and Japan like countries. So we can also get advantage by exporting it and buying getting more and more money from it. As its protection status for the iucn is endangered so that's why we have to control it. As Indian government have also done by making it in scheduled second of wildlife protection act of 1972. And under the cite's agreement it is considered in the appendix second that means that it is highly protected. And restriction have been made to protect it from illegal smuggling and other regions.
And another challenge that we can face is the new types of diseases which have been Developing from day to day. Which can destroy these trees in a very fast manner and make it it don't use able for our purposes. So that's why we have to control all these and we have to get them protected from any type of disease. As in one disease we can discuss is
sandalwood Spike disease
which is caused by the cytoplasm that is a bacterial parasite and. It is infectious disease which is transferred by insects from one tree to another. And it have no cure in our medical science till today. So that's why we will have to cure it and we will have to find vaccines to cure it. Because it has insect second spread it overnight in whole rests and all the trees can get fall down. It will also get a converted into a climate change issue. Because the tree is number is also decreasing and. As it is firstly reported in Karnataka region so that's why it have been reported since un 122 years ago. So that's why we will have to do efforts in developing and advancing....
the medical science.
